
MPs and MEPs visit

Ms Caroline Spelman MP, Conservative Member of Parliament for Meriden, Mr Richard Burden MP, Labour Member of Parliament for Birmingham, Northfield, Mr Paul Uppal MP, Conservative Member of Parliament for Wolverhampton South West and member of the Conservative Party’s Number 10 Policy Board with responsibility for health, Mr Steve McCabe MP, Labour Member of Parliament for Birmingham, Selly Oak and Harriett Baldwin MP, Conservative Member of Parliament for West Worcestershire along with Mr Malcolm Habour CBE MEP, Conservative Member of the European Parliament, West Midlands and Ms Anthea McIntyre MEP, Conservative Member of the European Parliament, West Midlands visited the School of Cancer Sciences at the University of Birmingham on Friday February 7th. The MPs and MEPs learnt about the collaboration between Cancer Research UK, and the School of Cancer Sciences, the work of the Cancer Research Clinical Trials Unit (CRCTU) and the research in head and neck and thyroid cancer undertaken by the Institute of Head and Neck Studies and Education (InHANSE).
They heard from Professor Pam Kearns (Director of the CRCTU), Professor Hisham Mehanna (Director of InHANSE), Lindsey Granger (a cancer campaigns ambassador) and the CR-UK policy team. They then visited the Human Biomaterials Resource Centre (HBRC) to get some insight into the process of tissue banking and their use in research.
