Lynda Wagstaff

Name:  Lynda Wagstaff

Job Title: Oncology Research Sister

Date joined Inhanse:
Based at UHB QE site for approx 5 years as an “outreach” of InHANSE.

What Do I Do:

  • Provide written and verbal communication on trial processes to support patients with their decision making regarding participation in clinical trials.
  • Build strong relationships with patients.
  • Liaise with other members of the MDT to ensure patients are offered an appropriate clinical trial if available.
  • Ensure all trial related procedures are adhered to inline with ICH GCP. Work closely with the clinical trials unit staff as well as gain local approvals for all departments involved in the trial for R+D purposes.
  • Coordinate sample collection both for translational research and also for eligibility in my current studies.

Research Interests:
Having been a research nurse for over 10 years I enjoy the ever increasing expansion of the knowledge base for cancers and the complexity of the newer study designs to incorporate our progress.

I find the viral and genetic knowledge fascinating and can already see a difference in the way patients are treated in order to improve outcomes. I admire scientists who have discovered the way cells signal to each other and use this knowledge to design drugs to interfere with the pathways in order to prevent or block cell growth.

Studies I work on:
De-Escalate HPV, Archimedes-op at UHB QE 1 day per week. Also data collection for PETNECK trial (now closed).
I also manage the Cancer Research Team at the Manor Hospital Walsall and run multiple trials in many different disease sites.

Famous for:
Having three jobs at 3 different sites as I also work in a local hospice and for my butterfly cakes (although only famous in my own house.)

Common remark:
No Publicity!
