Meet the clinical team

  • Mr. Shahzada Ahmed, Consultant ENT and Skull Base Surgeon

Shahz Ahmed
Graduated from Birmingham in 1997. Trained initially in the West Midlands then undertook advanced rhinology fellowships in South Africa and Nottingham. Special interests include septorhinoplasty and advanced endoscopic skull base surgery.

  • Dr Cheng Boon, Honorary Senior Lecturer (Radiotherapy Quality Assurance)
    Cheng works as a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Worcester Acute Hospitals specialising in Head and Neck Cancer.
    He remains heavily involved with the radiotherapy quality assurance programme for both the De-Escalate HPV and the Compare studies.

 

  • Dr James Good, Consultant Clinical Oncologist

Dr James GoodSpecialises in drug and radiation treatment of head/neck, thyroid and bowel cancer. Trained at Royal Marsden Hospital. Research interests in new cancer drugs (especially immunotherapy), and optimising curative radiotherapy, including CyberKnife.

  • Dr Andrew G Hartley, Consultant Clinical Oncologist

His main clinical interests are the chemoradiotherapy  of oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal cancer. Although a full time NHS clinician, his research is centred around radiobiological modelling.

Christopher Jennings
Qualified at University of Leicester in 1990 and trained in the East Midlands and Australia; his areas of clinical interest are head and neck cancer and conditions of the nose.

  • Professor Hisham Mehanna, Consultant Head, Neck and Thyroid Surgeon

Professor Hisham Mehanna, InHANSE, University of BirminghamSpecialty training in Glasgow. Surgery fellowship in New Zealand & PhD from University of Erasmus. Director of Institute of Head & Neck Studies & Education. Chair of Head & Neck Surgery, University  of Birmingham. Interests - oral cancer, thyroid cancer, reconstructive microvascular surgery, clinical research.

  • Mr Timothy J Martin, Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, Head and Neck Oncology, Microvascular and Salivary Gland Surgery

Timothy Martin
Qualified in Dentistry in 1988 and Medicine in 1996. Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at UHB since 2004. Specialist interest is Head and Neck cancer and microvascular reconstruction, particularly chimeric flaps of the subscapular axis.

  • Mr Paul Nankivell, Senior Clinical Lecturer and Honorary Consultant Head and Neck Surgeon

Graduated from Oxford University in 2002, with PhD from University of Warwick in 2013. Trained in the West Midlands with head and neck fellowship training in Melbourne, Australia. His clinical interests are in all aspects of head and neck cancer, with research                                interests being in oral and laryngeal premalignancy,                          translational research and surgical trials and devices.

 

  • Mr Satyesh Parmar, Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, Head and Neck Oncology, Reconstruction

Sat Parmar
Qualified from the University of Nottingham and attended the University of Leeds School of Dentistry. He specialises in salivary gland, head and neck cancers and reconstruction. 

  • Mr Paul Pracy, ENT Consultant Surgeon

 

Mr Paul PracyQualified from London in 1987. His professional areas of interest are head and neck cancer, cell biology of laryngeal cancer, head and neck surgical oncology, salivary gland disease and thyroid disease

  • Mr Prav Praveen, Consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon

Prav Praveen
Completed dentistry at Karnatak University, India & medicine from University of Birmingham. Interface Head & Neck Surgical Oncology Fellowship from Aintree University Hospitals, Liverpool. Interests - head & neck surgery with particular interest in
                      reconstruction.         

  • Mr Paul Sanghera, Consultant Clinical Oncologist

Paul's clinical interests are in head and neck cancer and brain cancers. He has a special interest in specialised radiotherapy techniques – and leads the work on the new cyberknife at UHB.

 

  • Mr Neil Sharma, Consultant ENT/Head & Neck Surgeon and Clinician Scientist
    Mr Neil SharmaQualified from University of Birmingham. Trained in the West Midlands. Fellowship training in head & neck/thyroid surgery in Auckland, New Zealand.
